About

Welcome to my site! A little bit about myself just for context.

I’m 24, currently working as a software engineer in the Bay Area till December 2019, after which I will resume my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

I’m an avid music nerd with a diploma in (Classical) Piano, and I have quite a moderate understanding of music theory. I grew up to my parents’ favourite tunes of the 1950s-80s – artists like the Beatles, BeeGees, Bread, John Miles, Paul Young, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson etc. I also listen to some classical music, though hardly enough considering my musical training. I like me some Jazz too, particularly Bossa Nova and Funk/Soul. I also really like old Hillsongs songs. In fact, I’d say my favourite song of all time is this little gem. In short, 75% of the artists I listen to are dead…

I’ve long been aware that I am an old soul. Music of the past just seems a lot more beautiful, picturesque and eloquent than the songs of today. But as you can imagine, my tastes make me somewhat of an oddball when it comes to parties (CaN yOu plaY WonDeRWalL?). Fortunately, I do have some fellow old fogeys who know that “Emotion” wasn’t written by Destiny’s Child, or who can appreciate Listz’s Liebestraum. But one cannot always live in the past, and I can’t say that I detest all music nowadays either. Who doesn’t like a good um-ch-um-ch every once in a while?

So this blog is really to convince myself that modern music isn’t all that bad. I still very much prefer old music when it comes to lyrics and chord-progressions for example, but I think that new music is ingenious and creative in its own ways too.

Do share my reviews if you like them! I’d also greatly appreciate any song recommendations, so email me with your faves. If I find something I like, I just might write about it and credit you. Lastly, if you’re a fellow frustrated fogey, I hope these reviews give you hope for the present and the future lol. Enjoy!

*DISCLAIMER: the site’s URL is a bit misleading. Not all of these songs are actually EDM songs, I just loosely categorize modern music as such.
